Senior Analyst

Are you a building energy consultant, looking for a new challenge? Do you possess a deep level of knowledge around building systems and energy modeling but do not know what to do with these powers? Perhaps you are motivated to make a larger impact in this world and looking for pathways to take you there. What if you could work for an impactful, dynamic, and exciting company where your skills and abilities can be tested and cultivated? If so, we would love to meet.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for creating and executing new analysis and energy modeling plans which are accurate, intuitive, and can be built efficiently to represent a building’s energy systems. The position is responsible for executing research plans which encompass literature reviews, conducting subject interviews, and skillfully summarizing intricate subjects concerning building energy efficiency technologies, codes, and standards. The position requires interpreting complex HVAC systems, building envelope assemblies, and other similar building attributes accurately to then represent them in a calculation. The position is required to translate all calculations and research findings into clear and cohesive sets of information, following company standards and systems.

Qualifications

We are looking for the right individual with the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science, Physics, Math, or Engineering

  • 6 to 8 years relevant post-academic work experience

  • Technical aptitude with ability to quickly learn and integrate new concepts and tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (clear, concise, logically presented)

  • Critical thinker with innate ability to challenge assumptions, ask questions, and solve problems

  • Experience in energy modeling for ASHRAE 90.1 and California Title 24 and as required for LEED prerequisites/credits.

  • Experience in energy modeling software including IES Virtual Environment and EnergyPlus.

  • Experience in 3D geometry environments, such as REVIT, SketchUp, and Rhino.

Responsibilities

Strategic Work, involving thoughtful planning, execution, and adaptation of actions.

Research industry related topics including energy efficiency, building energy codes and standards, while following standards for literature reviews, technical document reviews, and interviews.

Interpret project materials for systems and envelopes to create HVAC systems and building envelope analyses to best represent a building’s design, project analysis goals, and budget and time constraints for the task.

Evaluate applicable energy codes for specific projects and identify the best pathway and opportunities for energy comparisons and allowances.

Troubleshoot energy analyses for modeling convergence (such as reducing unmet hours) to reach the project goal or understand how close to the goal is achievable.

Training and guiding analyst positions on analysis techniques and methods used.

Preparing draft client deliverables of results and interpretations of the results for a review by a senior consultant.

Recommend and improve systems for translating building systems, such as modeling templates or guides or trainings covering detailed HVAC and envelopes.

Tactical Work, involving the practical implementation of plans and immediate actions.

Build out new project modeling inputs based on necessary detail and elements of the analysis in scope, using templates available.

Create and manage analysis inputs, outputs, and reporting materials for a project including written reports and presentations.
