Whole-Home Small Duct-High Velocity HP

Residential Heat Pump Systems - 2024

Efficiency ratings tell you how a system performs in a lab. They don’t tell you how it performs in a home.

When a leading HVAC manufacturer needed to demonstrate the real-world performance advantage of their Small Duct High Velocity system, standard SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings couldn't tell the full story. We built whole-building EnergyPlus simulations across three U.S. climates and two building vintages to capture what ratings miss: humidity control, duct losses, fan energy, and actual annual operating costs.

The result: in humid climates, SDHV maintained comfortable indoor humidity levels significantly more hours per year than mini-split or conventional central systems, a performance story invisible in any product spec sheet, and now defensible with independent simulation data.
